While the global coworking space market is steadily declining, the market is then expected to recover higher than ever by 2023. The growth will be a direct result of companies allowing their employees to work from home and individuals trying to make ends meet.
Freelancers, startups, entrepreneurs, and companies are realizing they can have teams across the world and still be successful. Anyone with a laptop has the ability to work remotely from any corner of the world.
The future looks bright for remote freelancing and startups.
While commuting to work is slowly coming to an end as we know, an estimated 1 billion of us will be roaming the planet by 2035.
And, ever since Bali’s Internet reached high speed and a somewhat reliable connection, coworking spaces have become abundant on the island.
In fact, Bali is becoming the new mecca for remote workers. With strong wifi, strong java, warm weather year-round, and an abundance of outdoor activities, you’ve got the perfect work-life balance. It’s no surprise digital nomads and other remote workers are making Bali their base.
So what makes Bali a great digital nomad destination?
There are multiple answers to this,
1. Internet– Without it, we can’t work, too slow and unreliable, we lose work and get frustrated. Luckily, the availability and speed of broadband connections in Bali have improved dramatically, especially since the introduction of 4G and fiber optics.
WiFi can easily be found in most hotels and cafes, and you can expect your connection speed to be around 512kbps – 2mbps although speeds can vary depending on your location. It’s important to take note that once you’re out of the tourist zones (the boonies) the internet can become a bit unreliable so it is best to stay near tourist hubs while you are in work mode.
Mobile connection is cheap and fast — The average SIM card with 4 gigs of internet data goes for about 90,000 Rp (roughly $6 USD). The three main providers in Bali are Telkomsel, XL, and Smartfren. The typical connection speed on mobile is 1mbps – 15mbps.
2. Cost-effective– Bali is definitely an affordable place to live. You could live on US$30 a day including accommodation, meals, and transport. Eating local food at a warung will set you back at just $1 or 2 USD per person. Yes, your money will last a long time in Bali.
3. Inspirational– Whether a digital nomad or remote workers can mean countless hours spent on your laptop., so you’ll need your off time to be as inspiring as possible. So if you are into surfing, snorkeling, beach clubs, eclectic nightlife, warm weather, or the vibrant Balinese culture there is plenty to get inspired about here.
4. Safety– Compared to other SE Asian countries, Bali is comparatively safer. I have yet to experience any of my equipment stolen although I do keep a pretty good eye on things. I usually stay somewhere decent with a propper safe, and security.
5. Community–The digital nomad community in Bali is strong. It’s a great place to network, meet fellow freelancers and business owners, and create opportunities for yourself.
